The surgical renal unit is a small, family-oriented unit where you can gain exceptional nursing skills and become part of a work family.
This 19-bed telemetry unit provides services to complex patients with general medical needs and diagnoses that can include acute and chronic renal failure, hypertension, diabetes, head and neck cancer, thyroid cancer, heart failure, chronic wounds, and paraplegia or quadriplegia. The team also cares for kidney transplant recipients and living donors, with an outpatient infusion room for new kidney transplant patients to come receive infusions after they have been discharged.
At Sanford Medical Center, the care of critically-ill adult patients occurs in three separate critical care units that are covered by the same nursing staff. Critical Care 2000 is a 12-bed pulmonary/medical critical care unit. Critical Care 3000 is a 15-bed trauma, surgical and neurocritical care unit. Critical Care 2800 is a 12-bed acuity adaptable unit for cardiothoracic and vascular surgery patients.
The units are staffed 24/7 with in-house intensivist services and daily coverage by three specialty services: pulmonary, surgical and neurocritical care. The staff works closely with the intensivist, surgical critical care team and neurocritical care team as well as other members of the interdisciplinary team to provide goal-directed care.
