Description: Together, the 30 bed medical surgical unit and 8 bed progressive care unit equips RNs with fundamental critical care experience in mechanical ventilation and provides a solid nursing foundation focusing on safe patient outcomes. With an average length of stay of 4 days on the Wings and 9 days in Acute, patient diagnosis range from pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, congestive heart failure, COVID-19 and pulmonary embolism to complex cases requiring nursing skills for oxygen therapy, intravenous medications, moderate sedation monitoring during bronchoscopies, chest tubes, tracheostomies, postoperative care, non-invasive ventilation, mechanical ventilation, in addition to cardiac monitoring. The diverse patient population and supportive family culture of the Pulmonary Unit provides a great atmosphere and exceptional nursing skills.

Epic for documentation, Alaris pumps for IVF, Acudose for medications
Required skills and minimum years of experience.
Bipap, Cpap, Heated High Flow, Oxygen titration, Moderate Sedation, Telemetry, Medical-Surgical patient care.
Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required.
BLS, ACLS. Specialty certification preferred. SD or compact state RN license
Shift or schedule requirements.
Nursing staff collaborate with the interdisciplinary team involving case managers, social workers, respiratory therapists, pharmacist, and physical therapists as well as many specialty providers to provide patient-centered care.
Every other weekend, every other holiday. Straight nights shifts, rotating shifts, or blocked scheduling (1 week orientation, 7 weeks of days, 6 weeks of nights)

Yes, Med-Surg float units;travelers are the first to be reassigned to another department
Bed size/number of rooms for this unit/dept. 30 med surg beds with capacity to double rooms to a 41 bed unit dependent on COVID volume. We have a med-surg non-covid wing of 10 beds, an 8 bed progressive care non-covid wing (IMC trained), a 10 bed C wing and a 10 bed D wing for non-covid and covid patients dependent on volume and census. Our C/D wing have capacity for double beds to flex up to a 41 bed unit dependent on our COVID volume. IMC travelers would work in both the IMC/MS unit. MS travelers in Med-Surg unit only.
Nurse to patient ratio of this unit. (nursing only) 1: 3 in Pulmonary Acute for IMC RNs
1: 4/5 days shifts 1: 5/6 night shifts

Tell us about the unit/department specific training and orientation program.
Day 1: RN Traveler competencies are validated on arrival at our LEAD center with our Nurse Educators concerning telemetry and mechanical ventilation. The travel nurse will complete online modules, self-assessment, and core competency validations 0700-1930
Day 2: Shift on unit with preceptor in a combination of patient care, unit tour, POCT testing, remainder of success center modules, and patient care 0700-1930
Day 3: 12 hour shift on Unit
