1. General job duties. Types of procedures required.
6C is an 8 bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit that specializes in the care of cardiac and cardio-thoracic patients. This unit cares for complex patients collaborating with critical care physicians, specialty consultants, respiratory therapy, social workers and pharmacists. ICU patients require continuous cardiac monitoring, titratable and vasoactive infusions, mechanical ventilation, IABP, impella, internal/external pacing, and renal replacement therapy. We are a fast paced unit with many high level acuity needs.
Nursing Skills developed on the unit include -Recovery of post cardiothoracic patients, ET tubes, Central lines, dialysis lines, bedside procedures, bronchoscopy, external pacemakers, chest tubes, tracheostomy, IVs, NGs, medication management and post-surgical care.
2. Equipment utilized in the unit/dept. (Is there computerized charting, medication systems, etc.)
Electronic Health Record - Cerner System and use of bedside bar code administration
Defibrillators, IABP, impella, cardiac monitoring, CRRT, infusion pumps, arterial lines, IV equipment, suction equipment, central lines, capnography, ventilators, CPAP/bipap, rapid transfusers, ultrasound.
3. Required skills and minimum years of experience.
1 year Cardiac ICU experience, device experience required (impella, hemodynamic monitoring), CABG recovery experience preferred
4. Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required. (ARRT, CRT, BLS, ACLS, etc)
Current IL license required as well as BLS, ACLS
5. Shift or schedule requirements. (Will the employee ever work alone? Is call required? If so, how often? Are weekends required?)
Every other weekend required, no call, cannot guarentee a block schedule
6. Floating to other units/departments. (If so, to which units/departments?)
Will need to be flexible to float first, then based on hospital needs would float to other critical care units based on hospital needs and individual competency.

8 bed cardiac ICU
8. Nurse to patient ratio of this unit. (nursing only)
1: 1, 1: 2, or 1: 3 (1: 4 ratio on IMC)
9. Dress Code:
Scrubs any color, may wear tshirt/jacket but must be a solid color or SMH brand, closed toed shoes, no grafic tshirts, no ear pods, no hoods

Classroom training for computer charting and quality indicators is provided along with 24hrs of unit specific orientation
