1. General job duties. Types of procedures required.
2B is a 24 bed General Surgical unit focusing on the care of a variety of surgical patients. Specialized surgical populations cared for on the unit include but are not limited to ENT, Complex Head and Neck, Complex Hernia repairs, Bariatric Weight Loss Surgeries, bowel obstructions and Traumas. Most patients range from young to older adults with at times adolescent and geriatric patients. We are a fast paced unit with many surgical patients admitted one day and discharged the next. Our complex head and neck patients have longer lengths of stay. This population allows RNs to participate in a multidisciplinary care team delivery model to help patients and their families learn a new way of life.
Nursing Skills developed on the unit include - Central lines, TPN, tracheostomy/laryngectomy care, drain care, Ostomy/ileostomy care, IVs, PCAs, dressing changes, NGs, medication management and post-surgical care.
2. Equipment utilized in the unit/dept. (Is there computerized charting, medication systems, etc.)
Electronic Health Record - Cerner System and use of bedside bar code administration
Defibrillators, bed scales, cautery, stand up scales, infusion pumps, IV equipment, suction equipment, intubation equipment, central lines, biopsy instruments, capnography and CPAP/bipap.
3. Required skills and minimum years of experience.
At least 1 year of experience on a Medical-Surgical unit
4. Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required. (ARRT, CRT, BLS, ACLS, etc)
Current and active IL license required as well as BLS
5. Shift or schedule requirements. (Will the employee ever work alone? Is call required? If so, how often? Are weekends required?)
Every other weekend rotation is expected. Shift to be determined at the time of request

Employee will always work with a team or nurses, patient care technicians, and a unit secretary
6. Floating to other units/departments. (If so, to which units/departments?)
Will need to be flexible to assist with staffing on other Medical-Surgical units
