Job Overview:
This position works 5 days a week to meet 40 hours (or 4 10s if on night shift). Staffing needs vary month to month;this means that shift, day and team assignments may change depending on the needs of the hospital. For example, staff could be assigned one team for a month and switched to a different team or to float/pool the following month. We generally try to give staff a consistent schedule based on their preference and availability, so shift (day/eve/night) assignments typically stay the same. It is important that staff are flexible to work on any team, any day of the week.
Qualifications:
- Must have an unencumbered license as a Certified Nurse Aide in Colorado with at least one (1) year of experience.
- Must have mental health, psychiatric, or state hospital experience
- Must have a current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or Red Cross
- Ability to build rapport with patients
- Compassionate and caring demeanor
- Familiarity with medical terminology
Responsibilities:
- Answer patients'calls and determine how to assist them.
- Measure and record patients'vital signs, such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, urine intake and output, and food intake and output, reporting any drastic changes to a nurse or physician.
- Provide basic patient care and treatments, such as feeding, changing soiled garments and giving massages.
- Help patients with bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, moving in bed, standing, and walking.
- Reposition and turn bed bound patients;assist those who need help walking or assistance transporting in wheelchairs.
- Provide patients comfort by utilizing resources and materials;transporting patients;answering patients'call lights and requests;and reporting observations of the patient to nursing staff.
- Documents actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records.
- Protects organization's value by keeping patient information confidential.
- Serves and protects the facility by adhering to professional standards, facility policies and procedures;federal, state, and local requirements;and JCAHO standards, where applicable.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and maintaining certification.
- Work as part of a healthcare team to assess patient needs, plan and modify care.
- Serve food trays and examine them for conformance to prescribed diet.
- Apply compresses, ice bags and hot water bottles as directed by nursing supervisor.
- Keep rooms clean and change soiled bedding and bedpans.
- Transport medical equipment in and out of rooms according to patient requirements.
- Inventory and requisition supplies.
- Make appointments, keep records and perform other clerical duties in doctors'offices and clinics.
- Maintains compliance and complies with annual requirements
- Successfully completes required employment-related documentation, testing, and screenings in a timely manner
