Staff Today, a HAN Division, is currently seeking a Accountant to work at a Facility in Aurora, IL. These are registry positions with our company Staff Today.

Pay Rate: $33 / hour

Shift Details:
  • 2-3 months possibility of extension
  • M-F 8am-430pm

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Accountant will apply principles of accounting in the analysis of financial data in order to provide analytical reports, reconcile accounts, verify accuracy of general ledger data and prepare journal entries as needed. The Accountant is responsible for assisting with all duties in the daily administration of the Finance Department operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Reconciles general ledger accounts to ensure the accuracy of their balances.
  • Prepares thoroughly documented journal entries and budget adjustments to general ledger accounts as needed.
  • Researches and analyzes general ledger account activity in order to provide an explanation for the balance upon request.
  • Assists in month-end close process.
  • Assists in preparation and presentation of monthly committee reports.
  • Assists in preparation of the monthly Finance Committee Agenda.
  • Reviews and processes department FOIA requests.
  • Maintains accounting records of fixed assets.
  • Assists in preparation of year-end adjustments and accruals by performing necessary research, reconciliations and analysis.
  • Assists in annual audit and preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) by preparing requested schedules and reports, as well as by providing explanations of supporting materials.
  • Assists in preparation of state AFR and EMMA filings.
  • Assists in preparation of the fiscal year budget and multi-year budget.
  • Assists in monitoring and reporting on the status of state and federal grants and assists departments with grant reconciliation as requested or required.
  • Assists in the performance of accounts payable duties such as verification of invoices for payment, ensuring expenditures are charged to appropriate account, reviewing vendor statements for problems, and processing Accounts payable invoices as needed.
  • Reviews accounts payable account distribution to ensure expenditures are charged to the appropriate account.
  • Assists in preparation of 1099s.
  • Assists in development, documentation, implementation and monitoring of internal control procedures.
  • Assists with implementation of the County' s integrated financial system
  • Assists with development of training materials and provision of training in the County' s integrated financial system.
  • Ensures all Finance Department Journal Entries, EFT' s and other records are scanned as needed.
  • Maintains Finance Department files.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

The ideal candidate possesses thorough knowledge of:
  • Principles and practices of financial administration, including financial reporting and budgeting.
  • GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and GASB (Government Accounting Standards Bureau) standards.
  • Grant reporting systems and the preparation of financial statements and compliance filings.
  • Integrated financial system software packages.
  • General and accounting related computer applications (Excel, Word, Power Point).
The ideal candidate demonstrates the ability to:
  • Reconcile General Ledger accounts.
  • Generate financial reports.
  • Interpret and apply complex regulations to fiscal systems.
  • Evaluate complex fiscal problems and develop sound courses of action.
  • Prepare, examine and verify financial documents and reports.
  • Coordinate and participate in the preparation and management of the County' s budget.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff at all levels in the organization.

The ideal candidate would possess the following professional qualifications:
  • Associates Degree or higher in accounting, finance, business or closely related field. Bachelors Degree preferred and 1 - 3 years accounting experience is required, preferably in government, or combination of education and experience as needed to perform the essential tasks.
