Job Description

1. General job duties. Types of procedures required.
RNs to complete vitals, full assessments, & I/O at minimum of every 4 hours. Emptying foley catheters are RNs responsibility.
Vitals & assessments are done more frequently if needed. Can be done hourly for 24 hours. Drips may be used if only one is titrated.
Every patient on intermediate is considered a fall risk. No patient is left alone in bathroom or at bedside commode.
All patient with intermediate orders are on monitors. Tele tech at desk to watch monitors.
Every patient is to be turned or re-positioned every 2 hours. Even independent patients may need encouraged.
Bedside report & purposeful 4 P Rounding completed by RNs & PCTs.
PCT & RN to communicate at beginning of shift a plan. Discuss specific orders & tentative plan for activity & bath.
PCT s responsibilities include feeding patients if needed, bathing, completing activity, accu checks, passing ice waters, stocking supplies, empty trash.
All mission partners to utilize the care boards in patient rooms.
May see subdural drain, lumbar drain, chest tube placements
May see chest tube, drain, art line and central line placements

2.Equipment utilized in the unit/dept. (Is there computerized charting, medication systems, etc.)
EPIC, pyxis, vein finder, IV pumps, cardiac monitors, lift equipment, bladder scanner, vents, bipaps, etc.

3.Required skills and minimum years of experience.
Minimum of 1 year ICU experience highly recommended. EPIC experience necessary.

4.Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required. (ARRT, CRT, BLS, ACLS, etc)
BLS, ACSL- recommended

5.Shift or schedule requirements. (Will the employee ever work alone? Is call required? If so, how often? Are weekends required?)
12 hours shifts 7a-730p or 7p-730a;never will be alone 21 bed unit;call would most likely not be required for travelers;we work every 3rd weekend.

6.Floating to other units/departments. (If so, to which units/departments?)
Floating would be to other cardiac stepdown unit;adult gen med units;ICU if has ICU experience. Travel RN to care for same RN to patient ratio as unit they are floating to (4-6: 1 gen med, 2: 1 ICU)

7.Bed size/number of rooms for this unit/dept.
21 bed unit

8.Nurse to patient ratio of this unit. (nursing only)
3: 1

9.Dress Code:
Any non-pediatric scrubs are fine

10.Tell us about the unit/department specific training and orientation program.
1 day of EPIC training, hands on skill review session, 1- 12 hour shift of orientation with RN on unit
